Super Deafy

This was a really fun and important experience.

Super Deafy is a deaf person (Of Course) and he is an interpreter, actor and movie maker, it happened in the OSC (Ormiston Senior College) in the theater and I was buddies with Marcus from LH2. When I was there it was helping me remember the time that we went there to see drama and how they are at pretending but the LH2 and 4 learners went there to see and hear some music. Super Deafy "signed" a story about 'The Giving Tree' and it was a happy/sad story because the boy wanted to play but as he  got older than the tree would give more to make the boy and himself happy... This was a common book that is found from England or Hollywood (I think). Sometimes there is some parts that I don't understand because it was all said in sign languages! (But there was somebody talking over while he signs) We were learning new signs and there was someone that I saw and that was my friend from Baverstock. His name was Jai Rong, he was deaf too. As the time past, Super Deafy was in a movie and he wanted to make a movie to make deaf people enjoy also he wanted to make a movie because all the movies he has seen was hearing people. We have seen the trailer and that was cool. At the end we asked some question to Super Deafy. My little sister Suri was brave and asked a question to him and she said "What is your sigh name?" I thought that she was a bit nervous at the same time.

This was a cool, fun thing to go to.

Poem about OrmPS

The first day of school it was really cool,
Then I met the learning coaches the building was new so there was no cockroaches,
There was lots of people can the classrooms keep all? (The learners)
Ten million people it felt like and there was some people riding a bike.

When we visited we walked and when we played we talked,
And there was a lot of friends Sometimes when we text we type and then press send,
In class we met and talked a little bit of ourselves and we did art the things are in the shelves,
The people I have seen and the their new uniforms were clean.

After time has past the learning we had done and we had lots of fun,
So new people have come and people from Baverstock I knew the people that have come,
It was time for lunch so it filled up our tum and after that we played to have fun,
And it comes to now we continue our journey and in the future we will learn and go to university.

I have wrote this because this is my first ever time to write a poem for my blog and when I continue I will try and make more poems. Thank you and come to OrmPS.

Science and Technology Competition

It was the day of the science and technology competition.

We got the form, signed it and went to Point View, it was 5min away from OrmPS and all of us went. We did not go on the bus, we went on Mr Dyers car. When the team went the carpark was full so Mr Dyer parked outside. When we arrived we were waited from other schools, I even saw my last school That I went to (Baverstock Oaks School)! We were waiting for 3min for the other 2 or 3 schools. I was in a team with Taanvi and Willie, the other team was Henry, Anjili and Nelvin so Mr Rankin was suggesting that we should watch a helpful video and told Mr Dyer that it was a really good website to go on. We were deciding if we should either watch the vides or start planning and organizing so Willie and I watched the video while Taanvi was thinking about some ideas that we should do. The materials we need were 2 chairs, 1 big and small pieces of paper, rubber bands, wires and heavy stuff. The challenge was trying to build a bridge at least
40 cm. Before we started there was obviously some rules.
Important Rules:
Must put a plastic bag on the bridge,
You must try and build a bridge without letting it stick to the chairs,
Have fun!
Those were the Important rules but there was more rules (Sadly I couldn't Remember all of it). It took 45min before we have to stop but Mr Rankin was really nice and gave us 10min extra time! It took a while to figure out what we should do then I had a brilliant idea. My idea was wrapping the extra pieces of paper to make it stronger. Mr Rankin said "All the bridges don't have to be the prettiest, they have to be strong so that it could hold lots of heavy stuff". After all the building time we had it was time to put it to the test, the test was holding bottles of water to try and weigh the bridge even more so the challenge was trying not to make it fall. It was tricky because Mr Rankin hit every bridge until it fell. We were so lucky, We came in fifth out of 32 teams! It was really enjoyable.

Ohm & Justin - Author's Purpose Learning Story

Learners: Ohm & Justin V    Learning Coach: T.Dillner            Date: 3.9.15
Learning Area: Literacy - Author’s Purpose
Learning Observed
Ohm and Justin attended a literacy workshop which was aimed at one of the Learning Progressions that each learner has on their Learning Pathway. We were looking specifically at how an author might use features on the cover and spine, in the blurb and in the text. The learners had to work together to analyse a text and identify why the author included these features and what they told the viewer about the text.
Ohm and Justin worked as a group on a variety of novels, connecting how the author may have used features that were the same or different on each text. They showed an increased capability in this when talking together about how the cover image, title, blurb and first page gave an idea of the theme and the author’s purpose. As they collaborated, each of the boys were able to extend their own knowledge by building on it with the ideas of the other group members.
Evidence of learning

Next Learning Steps
  • Finish a Best Fit Novel and analyse the Author’s Purpose after reading the entire book.
  • Record this analysis either in writing, video or audio.
  • Upload this as evidence in their Literacy Learning Pathways.

Habitat learning

For 4-5 weeks of digitizing, localising, making and drawing, we all gathered up in habitat hui to share our Habitats

Last Monday all the localize and digitize groups met together to prepare our presentation on animal habitat. All the localize it group were (I didn't know exactly what they did) Researching about an animal and creating the habitat in a device. The way we did our habitats was that we made an Animal Fact File then we planned on what we were going to build and the fun part Digitizing it! I was Collaborating with Rohullah to finish the habitat we created by taking turns since there is only one device. We did our habitat on Minecraft PE so we tried to take turns for building each part of the habitat. The other people was getting ready to comment to our habitats. By the way our animal is the Cheetah so we need a big open space for it to run, shade and water to cool it off and places for it to hide from Predators. Other people did other animals (Flamingo, Lion, Birds) and you can even make your own wacky animal by using MakeYourWildSelf (I think) and making up random facts too. On Wednesday the make it and draw it groups was getting ready to setup there art and presentations too, while the other groups comment on them. It was a fun experience and we all enjoyed it!
